The Light Is Still Breaking Through

This morning, looking at the sunlight breaking through the clouds, I was reminded of something my cancer journey has taught me: darkness and light can exist in the same sky.

Cancer has brought uncertainty into my life, but it has also brought clarity. It has stripped away many things that once seemed important and reminded me what truly matters.

But I don’t think we need a frightening diagnosis to learn that lesson.

All of us are carrying something.

Maybe it is illness. Maybe it is grief, loneliness, disappointment, fear, regret, or simply the weight of trying to find our way through life.

We all have clouds.

And yet, somewhere beyond them, there is still light.

A quiet morning matters. A walk outside matters. A cup of coffee matters. A conversation with someone we love matters. Laughter matters. Kindness matters. Waking up and being given another day matters.

We cannot control every cloud that crosses our sky. We cannot know exactly what tomorrow will bring. But we can decide how we will live today.

Keep going.

Keep loving.

Keep creating.

Keep forgiving.

Keep believing that something beautiful can still be waiting around the corner.

Cancer is part of my story now, but it will never become the whole story. And whatever struggle you may be facing, it does not have to become the whole of yours either.

Life is fragile. Life is uncertain. Perhaps that is exactly why it is so precious.

So notice the sunlight when it appears.

Be grateful for the ordinary moments.

Tell people you love them.

Do the things you have been putting off.

And when the sky grows dark, remember that darkness does not mean the light is gone.

Sometimes it is simply waiting behind the clouds.

Today, the light is still breaking through.

And so are we.
